David Eric Grohl, born January 14, 1969 in Warren, Ohio, is an American multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter and producer. He began his professional career at the age of 17 as the drummer for the band Scream, after playing in several bands in the Washington, D.C. area. In 1990, he became the drummer for Nirvana, a band from Aberdeen, Washington, and participated in the composition of the hit album Nevermind. Following the death of Kurt Cobain in April 1994, Grohl took up guitar and vocals and recorded his first solo album, Foo Fighters. In the wake of his death, he made the formation of his new band official.
